Thank You for an Incredible Year: Celebrating Our Youth & Junior Cup Champions!
The sun has set on another spectacular season of racing, culminating in an absolutely stellar finale at the Sherwood Park Triathlon. We want to extend our deepest gratitude to every athlete who toiled through the winter training and pushed their limits this summer, as well as the parents, coaches, and volunteers whose unwavering support makes this vibrant community thrive.
The Sherwood Park event delivered high-octane racing to close out the year. In the Draft Legal 12-13 category, Luke Shopland dominated the men's field with a time of 39:30.5, while Everly Straker took the women's victory in 48:58.1. The Draft Legal Super Sprint (14-15 years) saw Kehlan Duncan cross the line first for the men in 38:45.5 and Lauren Smith secure the women's win in 45:36.8. The older athletes brought incredible speed to the Draft Legal Sprint (16-19 years), where Tucker Buhler claimed gold at 1:04:10.6 alongside Taryn Shalapay, who led the women's race with a commanding 1:16:15.5 finish.
These fantastic final performances cemented the overall standings for the Youth and Junior Cup. Luke Shopland clinched the top spot in the Youth 12-13 Male division with 300 points, matched by by Maelle Robert, who secured the Youth 12-13 Female title with 325 points. The Youth 14-15 champions proved their incredible consistency across the series, with Will Zinken earning 340 points to win the male division and Lauren Smith topping the female division with 290 points. Finally, the Junior 16-19 crowns were captured by Tucker Buhler (325 points) and Taryn Shalapay (325 points), both of whom capped off their cup-winning seasons with those matching victories on the course in Sherwood Park.
Congratulations to all our Cup champions, podium finishers, and every participant who challenged themselves this year. Your dedication and sportsmanship are the cornerstone of Triathlon Alberta, and we are already counting down the days until we see you back on the start line next season.
