Winter Event Sanctioning Now Open

Triathlon Alberta has officially opened sanctioning applications for the upcoming winter season.

Race directors planning a winter triathlon, aquathlon, indoor triathlon, or other multisport event are encouraged to begin the sanctioning process and submit their event information as early as possible.

Triathlon Alberta sanctioning helps ensure events across the province meet established standards for safety and fair competition while providing organizers with access to insurance coverage, technical support, officials, and promotion through Triathlon Alberta.

Sanctioning Application

The Winter Event Sanctioning Application is now open, with sanctioning packages due by December 1, 2026.

Complete the Winter Event Sanctioning Application

Triathlon Alberta understands that applications and supporting documents may still be works in progress. Race directors should complete the application to the best of their knowledge by the deadline. Any information that changes or becomes available later can be discussed during the review process.

Once the sanctioning application has been submitted, it will be reviewed by the Triathlon Alberta office and the Technical Delegate assigned to the event.

A conference call will then be organized between the event organizer, Triathlon Alberta office, and Technical Delegate to review the submitted documents and discuss any required changes. Once the review is complete and any necessary changes have been made, the application can be approved.

Certificates of Insurance may only be issued after the sanctioning application has been approved.

World Qualifying Spots

At this time, World Championship qualifying spots are not yet available.

Triathlon Alberta will provide race directors with additional information once qualifying spots become available.

Race Director Membership

All race directors are required to hold a valid Triathlon Alberta annual membership for insurance purposes.

Race directors should ensure their membership is current as part of the sanctioning process.

Fairness and Safety in Sport

Race directors are also reminded to review and follow Triathlon Alberta's Fairness and Safety in Sport Policy when planning and delivering their event.

The policy was introduced in response to provincial legislation surrounding safety, inclusion, and fairness in sport and applies to Triathlon Alberta sanctioned activities.

Race directors who have questions about how the policy applies to their event or how registration categories should be set up are encouraged to contact Triathlon Alberta for assistance.

Making Your Event Para-Friendly

Triathlon Alberta also encourages race directors to consider whether their event can accommodate paratriathletes and, where possible, include appropriate para categories within event registration.

Small considerations during the planning process can help make multisport events accessible to more athletes. Triathlon Alberta can provide support to organizers who have questions about hosting a para-friendly event or accommodating individual athletes.
