Volunteer Police Information Screening Policy Statement
Screening of personnel and volunteers is an important part of providing a safe sporting environment and has become a common practice among sport organizations that provide programs and services to the community. Under law, Triathlon Alberta is responsible to do everything reasonable to provide a safe and secure environment for participants in its programs, activities and events.
Triathlon Alberta requires mandatory Police Information Checks (PIC) and Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) for all individuals who work directly with athletes under the age of 19 years while serving in an official capacity for Triathlon Alberta. This includes all Staff, Directors, Chairs, Coaches, Managers, Officials, and Chaperones. Applicants are responsible for all costs associated with this process.
There are two options to obtaining your PIC and PVSC:
- Visit your local Police Department website for information on the paperwork and procedures that have to be completed. Note, a PIC/PVSC must be completed in the city/town in which you legally reside.
- Complete an Enhanced Police Information Check (E-PIC) with Sterling BackCheck by following this link: http://www.sterlingbackcheck.ca/Alberta-Triathlon-Association
Individuals who have already completed a PIC and PVSC within the past three (3) years can submit a copy of the document to Triathlon Alberta’s General Manager.
